Why Pour Thickness Matters

Material volume increases directly with average pour thickness. A project that averages twice the thickness needs twice the material volume before allowance and whole-bag rounding.

Why Primer Matters

Most self-leveling products require specific substrate preparation and primer. This calculator does not estimate primer quantity because products and substrate conditions vary.

Deep Pours and Aggregate Extension

Do not use this base estimate for aggregate-extended or special deep-pour systems unless the manufacturer provides compatible yield data.

How the Calculator Works

Base Volume = Floor Area × Average Thickness

Adjusted Volume = Base Volume × (1 + Allowance ÷ 100)

Yield per Bag = Published Coverage × Reference Thickness

Bags to Buy = round up (Adjusted Volume ÷ Minimum Yield per Bag)

Purchased capacity and bag-rounding extra use whole bags. Bag-rounding extra comes from buying whole bags and is separate from the extra material allowance.

Worked Example

For a 300 sq ft floor at an average 1/4 in, with published coverage of 24 sq ft/bag @ 1/4 in and a 10% allowance, base volume is 6.25 cu ft and adjusted volume is 6.875 cu ft. The result is 14 bags, with 7 cu ft purchased capacity, equivalent to 336 sq ft @ 1/4 in.

The 10% allowance is intentional added project volume. The 0.125 cu ft = 6 sq ft @ 1/4 in bag-rounding extra comes from buying 14 whole bags. They are different kinds of extra material.
