Can Underlayment Fix an Uneven Subfloor?
Underlayment is not a substitute for correcting an out-of-flat subfloor. How the Calculator Works
Required Coverage = Project Area × (1 + Allowance ÷ 100)
Rolls or Packages to Buy = round up (Required Coverage ÷ Coverage per Purchase Unit)
Purchased Coverage = Units to Buy × Coverage per Purchase Unit
Package-Rounding Extra = Purchased Coverage − Required Coverage
For a price per roll or package, cost uses complete units. For a per-area price, it uses purchased coverage because whole units are bought.
Worked Example
For a 300 sq ft project with a 10% Extra Underlayment Allowance and 100 sq ft per roll, required coverage is 330 sq ft. Four rolls provide 400 sq ft Purchased Coverage.
The 30 sq ft Extra Underlayment Allowance is the intentional material added before purchase rounding. The 70 sq ft Package-Rounding Extra comes from buying four whole rolls. They are different concepts.
